CVS EDUCATION GROUP
The CVS Education Group consists of four main activities / colleges as shown. The abridged trading name of the group is CVS Colleges.
About UsCVS Education Group evolved from the Institute of Vocational Studies (IVS). IVS was established in 1987 as an examinations body for private, mainly correspondence, colleges. IVS conducted examinations for a total of 27 careers at competency levels starting from N1 (Std 8) to M+3 (3 year qualifications after St 10). Over 13 000 students were examined by IVS over the last 16 years. Market demands and legal requirements in South Africa since 1995 let to the establishment of CVS Colleges, CVS Corporate and CVS Learning Academy - each focus on a separate segment of the market.
Mission, Goals and Objectives
The purpose of CVS is to develop provide and co-ordinate decentralized training and development programmes within the framework of a workable quality assurance process. An overriding concern is to have an acceptable quality of delivery which is affordable to students and cost-effective to companies.
The overall aim or mission of CVS is to build capacity amongst individuals and employers by designing and delivering appropriate and quality education and training programmes. To this end, the following markets are emphasised:
• Young people who did not finish secondary school
• Individuals who need skills or job training in order to become more productive and profitable
• Companies who need assistance with the implementation of their Workplace Skills Plans
• Setas, the Department of Labour and individual companies who need assistance with implementing learnerships
The medium- and short-term objectives of CVS include the following:
• To structure programmes to comply with NQF and outcome-based criteria as required by Industry / SETAS
• To make the training as affordable as possible. For example, provide decentralised CVS Colleges wherever viable
• To have the programme and subjects accredited in order to ensure that students stand a better chance to gain advance their careers
